Richard Marx

Thursday, October 9, 2014 | 8pm

Richard Marx could teach a class on hit love songs. The singer-songwriter has notched 29 Billboard Hot 100 hits — from his first No. 1 as an artist, 1988's "Hold On to the Nights," to his 2011 Hot Country Songs chart-topper for Keith Urban, "Long Hot Summer." Marx, now 50 and recently divorced from his longtime wife, actress Cynthia Rhodes, says he writes "what every woman wants to hear and what every man wished he could say." With Beautiful Goodbye, Marx is romancing listeners once again.

Beautiful Goodbye is Marx's first studio album of all-new material to be released on CD for a full ten years. Preceded by the racy single "Whatever We Started," it was released in July 2014. Marx also returned to the spotlight with a guest appearance on American Idol.

In addition to his parents, Marx names recording artists like Sam Cooke and Elvis Presley as his biggest musical influences, along with Steven Tyler, Elton John, Kenny Loggins, Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox, U2, Dave Grusin, and includes Billy Joel, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, The Eagles, Luther Vandross, Earth, Wind & Fire, and Gladys Knight in his list of favorites.
