Maxwell
Sunday, August 3
Gerald Maxwell Rivera, better known as Maxwell, is a Grammy award-winning American singer-songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist.
His music spans the genres of R&B, funk, and soul, but he is best known as one of the founding members of the neo-soul movement that rose to prominence over the latter half of the '90s.
After making a name for himself on the New York club scene in the early 90's, he signed a recording contract with Columbia in 1994 and released his debut album, Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite, in 1996. The album included the gold- selling single "Ascension (Never Wonder)" and went on to achieve platinum status before a year had passed, earning a Grammy nomination along the way. Over the course of his career, he has received 12 Grammy nominations and two wins. His albums include Now, Embrya, and BLACKsummers'night, which was released in July 2009
The Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to host the legendary R&B singer for one night only on Sunday, August 3, 2014.
